The town of Boissevain is getting into the Christmas spirit as they prepare for a Christmas celebration for November 27th.

Hallmark Christmas movies were the inspiration for Boissevain residents, Audrey Paschke and Christina Ducharme to put the wheels in motion for a Boissevain Christmas celebration.  Paschke and Ducharme were both part of a Canada Day Celebration meeting in July of 2019 and Paschke came late, due to getting caught up in watching a Hallmark Christmas movie.

The two soon realized they were both followers of the Hallmark seasonal movies and the brain-storming began on how they could rally a committee together to bring that same magic of Christmas to Boissevain.

Last year’s plans came to a screeching halt as COVID regulations took over.  The majestic Christmas tree at the corner of Highway 10 and South Railway did get lit up as planned with thousands of lights, but other street events were put on hold.

This year, a sizable committee has come together to put the wheels back in motion with a set date of November 27th for the downtown to be bustling with activities for the entire community.  The tree lighting event will take place the Friday evening (Nov 26) at the Art Park with a community choir sharing favorite carols, and the official switching on of the many, many lights!

Saturday’s events will include an afternoon matinee at the Boissevain Community Theatre.  Children’s activities include crafts, outdoor events and a visit with Santa at the Arts Park.  An artisan’s market will be held at the Junction building and a memory tree is being planned for just outside the community Library.  Food, baking and hot chocolate are also part of the day’s activities.

An official contest is being held for local businesses to decorate their store fronts to win prizes for the best Christmas dressing!

An 'unofficial' contest is being held along Highway 10, the north vs the south sides of the town and this friendly competition will prove to be very entertaining for all residents and drivers passing through!

Event Co-Coordinator, Audrey Paschke, shares how the Boissevain Christmas festival is a true celebration of community.

“We just love Christmas and we love our community, and we just love sharing and celebrating with each other,” shares Paschke.  “We would like to invite everyone out to the Friday night tree lighting and enjoy the Christmas caroling.”

“Most of the activities that we have planned for Friday evening and Saturday are taking place at the Arts Park so come and check it out!”
