Natural gas rates in Manitoba are going down effective February 1st after a decision by the Pulic Utilities Board yesterday.

The application from Centra Gas was approved to decrease the gas commodity rate from 10.2 cents per cubic meter to about 8.5 cents. The Board also approved a decrease to the Commodity Cost Balancing Deferral rate rider.

According to the Board, the changes are expected to save the typical residential customer about $38 per year, or about 5.7%.

This was the fifth consecutive decrease in Centra Gas rates since January of last year. The previous application, approved in October 2023, lowered customer's annual bills by about 10%.

The next price review will come in April.
