Visitors to the Boissevain-Morton Cemetery will notice a new item.  A columbarium has been purchased and cemetery board secretary treasurer Karen Patterson explains the structure is used to place ashes into. Patterson tells us the new columbarium will be placed in the north east corner of the cemetery. She shares that area of the cemetery has been a difficult space due to alkalinity in the soil and they were unsure how to utilize it until they came up with this plan. Patterson notes the structure costs $21,000, and the grant of $5,000 from the Boissevain-Morton Community Foundation was very helpful.

Patterson says cremation burials have become more popular over the past 10 years and the columbarium is seen as a nice addition to the cemetery. She notes more cities are providing this option to people and the board felt this was a move in the right direction. Patterson explains this could also be seen as a cost saving option.
