Samaritan House Ministries has been seeing an increase in the number of food hampers being given out, with October reaching close to 3,000 hampers alone.

"A ball-park figure, we were around 2700 hampers in July, and then August went to about 2800, September went to about 2850, and then our food hampers for October were at 2,993 so just under 3,000," shares Executive Director, Barbara McNish.

"It's steadily increasing and we're seeing the need more and more," she adds.  "The cost of food, they're paying their rent, they're maintaining their housing and I think they're using some of their food budget to do that."

'Samaritan House Ministries' Food Bank is funded mainly by donations. Without a constant stream of generous donations - food, household goods, seasonal clothing and footwear for shelter clients, and money - we cannot provide the necessary food and programs to assist people in their growth from poverty and homelessness to stability,' states their website.

Something to note: the average cost of a food bank hamper or overnight stay in the shelter equals about $33.  If you're not sure which items are the most needed, click HERE!
