The following is the RCMP report to May 11, 2023.  This reporting period, police responded to the following calls for service.

 

- 1 traffic violations

- 7 provincial statute (Mental Health Act, Fire Prevention Act, Coroner's Act, 911 Act)

- 10 common police activities (alarms, suspicious persons/vehicles, assistance to general public)

- 13 crimes against property

- 5 other criminal code

- 2 crimes against persons

- 1 traffic accidents

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

Just a reminder that RCMP DO NOT do child abuse and adult abuse registry checks.  RCMP is responsible for criminal record checks and vulnerable sector checks.  You require a vulnerable sector check if you are in a position of trust. You must present to the detachment when applying for a vulnerable sector check. 

Position of Trust means a paid or voluntary position dealing with vulnerable people. Vulnerable people may include children, youth, the elderly, people with physical, developmental, emotional, social, or other disabilities, people who are addicted or dependent on addictive substances, and people who have been the victim of a crime or an accident.

Applicants who require a Vulnerable Sector Check from their organization must present themselves in person and provide written consent in order for the checks to be conducted.

Proper identification must be produced and recorded on the application: a government issued photo identification for the Primary Document, and a secondary document which verifies the Primary identification.

YOUTH CRIMINAL RECORD CHECKS

Criminal record checks cannot be done on youth unless working in Government. It has been established that non-provincially or municipally run summer camps and pools, public/private schools including colleges/universities are not government employers.

Police received a report of a suspicious person in Boissevain. Investigation is ongoing.
 

May 2, 2023

Police received a report of a break and enter in Boissevain. Police attended and there were no signs of a break and enter and nothing missing. The matter was unfounded.

Police received information of a male with a warrant at a location in Boissevain. Police attended and the male was gone on arrival.


May 3, 2023

Police assisted with a matter in Boissevain under the Family Orders and Agreements Act.


May 4, 2023

Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle in Ninette. The matter was unfounded.

Police assisted with a matter under the Family Law Act in Ninette.
 

May 5, 2023

Police received a report of a break and enter to a business in the RM of Argyle. There was insufficient evidence to proceed.

Police received a 911 call regarding a theft in Boissevain.  Police attended the address and there was

no forced entry, unknown when it happened. There was insufficient evidence to proceed.

Police received a report of uttering threats in Deloraine. The matter was unfounded.

Police received a report of mischief in Boissevain. The complainant declined to proceed.

Police assisted with a matter under the Family Law Act in Boissevain.

Police received a request for a well-being check in Killarney. Everyone located safe.

Police received a report of a person being unlawfully in a dwelling in Boissevain. The matter is under investigation.

Police assisted with a matter under the Family Orders and Agreements in Boissevain.
 

May 7, 2023

Police received a report of failing to comply with an undertaking in Killarney. Police attended but there was no answer at the door.  Insufficient evidence to proceed.

Police received a report of break and enter in Boissevain. Police attended. The matter is under investigation.

Police received a report of damage to a hotel in Killarney. The room was smoked in and had cocaine residue. All rooms were on one credit card that is not accepting full payment.  Police attended, the rooms had already been cleaned. The following day a person attended the hotel and paid in full.  Complainant was satisfied.

Police received a report of a suspicious male in Boissevain. The male was known to police. Police attended and spoke with the complainant and made patrols.

Police assisted with a matter under the Child Welfare Act in the Boissevain-Morton area.
 

May 8, 2023

Police received a report of a scam in Killarney regarding income taxes. No information was released to the scammer.
 

May 9, 2023

Police received a report of a scam in Killarney. The complainant was advised there was a problem with PayPal and to download an app on their phone. They were also told to purchase gift cards and take pictures of them on his phone which the scammer then had access to. Unfortunately, police were unable to get the money back from the gift card scam.

Police received a report of a scam in Baldur when a phone call was received supposedly from STARS Ambulance. The complainant was advised he won a truck and cash and they wanted to know where to deliver same to. Complainant did not release any information.

Police responded to a single vehicle rollover on Highway 18 just north of Killarney. No injuries were sustained, and alcohol was not a factor.

Police received a request for a well-being check in Killarney. Everyone located safe.

Police received a report of a suspicious vehicle/persons on highway 23 and observing a small car parked on an approach. After passing the vehicle, 2 or possibly 3 males got out and proceeded to sit in the middle of the highway. No plates on vehicle. Complainant was concerned for their safety and others driving on the highway. Police attended and did not locate a vehicle parked in the area, and no people out on the highway.
 

May 10, 2023

Police received a report of a fraud in Killarney when an e-transfer was received and was not legitimate. No information was released by the complainant.

Police received a report of fraud in Deloraine. The matter is under investigation.
 

May 11, 2023

Police received a report of harassment in Deloraine. The matter is under investigation.

 

Reminder:  It is important to report ALL thefts, stolen or lost property to police in a timely fashion so that it can be followed up on by police.

Police continue to remind residents to never provide personal information such as birth dates, SIN numbers, credit card numbers, or e-mail address to parties you do not know.  If you feel that you have been contacted by a fraudulent source, please contact police or Canadian AntiFraud Center immediately for further instructions on what you can do.  Canadian Antifraud Centre can be reached directly at 1-888-495-8501, however also report same to the local detachment.

Boissevain Detachment business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

RCMP WOULD LIKE TO REMIND THE PUBLIC TO USE THE POLICE EMERGENCY LINE FOR YOUR LOCAL OFFICE (204) 523-7255 or 911.  The administration line may not be checked until the following day or possibly the Monday following a weekend.  Members may be in another community or on the road.
