The Souris-Glenwood Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their Christmas festival this weekend with a special kids' initiative taking place this Friday evening to ramp things up!

Santa's Workshop sponsored by the Souris Glenwood Chamber of Commerce will take place December 2nd from 5:30 till 7:30 at St. Paul’s United Church in Souris. Consumers purchase ten-dollar vouchers then children can privately shop for their loved ones with their vouchers. 

Organizing committee member, Jacy Arbuckle, says their local chamber has been organizing this annual event for close to 20 years.  "It's a way for kids to be able to shop for their parents, brothers or sisters, or whomever they want, out of sight of their parents so it can be a surprise for them."

Everything at the Workshop is priced at $10, which includes the Christmas present, taxes and gift wrapping.  Parents purchase a $10 ticket per child, which gets the child into Santa's Workshop to look for that perfect gift for their loved one.  "They can go around to all the different vendor tables, pick something and get it wrapped and be on their way!"

The following day, Saturday, December 3rd the Santa parade will make the rounds through Souris, starting at 7 pm.  Free registration for parade participants, simply show up.  Email:  santaparadesouris@gmail.com for more information.

From now to mid-December, many Souris businesses will stay open for evening shoppers on Thursdays, till 8 pm.  "Most businesses in town close around 5:30 or 6 o'clock and then it's tough for those who are working to support those businesses for their Christmas shopping, so we've partnered with many of our businesses to stay open longer on Thursdays, till 8:00 pm, and this will continue on Thursday evenings until December 15t,." adds Arbuckle.

Christmas festivities continue the following week with a special matinee showing of the movie, Frozen, at the Souris theatre on Saturday, December 10th with special character 'guests' for a kids' meet and greet with photos taken at 12:30 noon prior to the movie matinee.
