Noah Landry scored twice as Boissevain/Souris beat Sandy Bay 4-1 in the lone Westman High School Hockey League game Thursday night. Kolten Barwick and Austin Gordon also scored for the Broncos. Sam Koncz replied for the Badgers.

 

The Brandon Wheat Kings gave up three first period goals and lost 6-2 to the Ice in Winnipeg. Connor McClennon scored his 29th, 30th and 31st goals of the season for the Ice. Chad Nychuk and Nolan Ritchie did the goal scoring for the Wheat Kings.

 

Kelly Marnoch of Carberry, Graham Freeman of Virden and Grant Shewfelt of Baldur all lost B side games Thursday at the Viterra Provincial Mens Curling Championship in Selkirk and were eliminated. Marnoch fell 9-2 to Ryan Thomson of Morden, Freeman lost 8-1 to Brett Walter of Assiniboine Memorial and Shewfelt dropped a 7-4 decision to Jack Hykaway of Pembina.

 

Canada’s medal count is 12 at the Winter Games in Beijing. Canadian athletes have won one gold, four silver and seven bronze medals. In curling – Jennifer Jones lost 8-5 to Satsuki Fujisawa of Japan and has a 1-1 record. Brad Gushue is 2-1 after losing 5-3 to Peter de Cruz of Switzerland. Sarah Fillier and Brianne Jenner scored three goals each as Canada’s women’s hockey team defeated Sweden 11-0 in the quarterfinals. Deloraine's Ashton Bell and Jocelyne Larocque of Ste. Anne both had an assist. 

 

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers agreed to terms on a one-year contract with defensive back Tyqwan Glass. The Pasadena, California native played seven games with the Montreal Alouettes in 2021. He spent the 2019 season with the Edmonton Elks and started his career with the Alouettes in 2018. Through 30 games, Glass recorded 95 defensive tackles, six special teams tackles, one sack and three interceptions.
