The Wawanesa Warriors and Souris Sabres will play in the semifinals today at the Provincial High School Varsity Basketball Championships. The Warriors will meet host Glenboro/Baldur at 10:45 a.m. at the A boys championship. The Sabres will meet Warren at 4 p.m. at the AA girls championship in Somerset. Wawanesda downed Ross L. Gray of Sprague 76-60 while Souris shaded Hapnot Collegiate of Flin Flon 49-47 in their respective quarterfinals on Thursday. 


Jaxon Jacobson had two goals and an assist and Easton Odut chipped in with three helpers as the Brandon Wheat Kings defeated the Pembina Valley Hawks 4-1 Thursday night in Morden. Matthew Michta made 16 saves in net for the Wheat Kings who lead the best-of-five Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League semifinal two games to none. Game three goes tonight in Brandon. 


Sean Grassie of Deer Lodge and Ryan Wiebe of Fort Rouge won their openers Thursday night and will play in A Event semifinals at 1 p.m. at the 2024 Provincial Mixed Curling Championship in Neepawa. Grassie defeated Thomas McGillivray of the Heather CC 8-3 and Wiebe downed Janelle Lach of Minnedosa 6-2.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed American wide receiver Isaiah Coulter, and American defensive backs James Campbell and Anthony Witherstone. Coulter was originally selected by the Houston Texans in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He appeared in one regular season game for Houston before playing three games for the Chicago Bears in 2021. Campbell played five seasons at Montana State, recording 64 tackles, two tackles for loss, two interceptions, seven pass breakups, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in 41 games for the Bobcats. Witherstone spent the 2023 preseason with the Kansas City Chiefs, making one defensive tackle in his only game prior to being injured. He played six seasons at Merrimack, recording 74 tackles, two tackles for loss, four interceptions, two touchdowns, 19 pass breakups, and one forced fumble in 35 games.
