The Boissevain Border Kings suffered their only loss of the 2021-22 hockey season Sunday night at Tundra Oil & Gas Place in Virden. The South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League champion Warren Mercs scored three goals in the first period, added four more in the second and then held on for a 7-6 victory over the Border Kings in the final of Hockey Manitoba's Provincial Senior "A" championship. Rylee Zimmer had a pair of goals for the Tiger Hills Hockey League champions. Devon LeBlanc, Dustin Fisher, Tyler Dittmer and Eli Halcrow also scored for the Border Kings who trailed 3-2 and 7-3 at the period breaks.


The Virden Oil Capitals will meet the Steinbach Pistons and the Winkler Flyers will take on the Dauphin Kings in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League semifinals. Kaden Bryant scored 13:15 into double overtime to lift Dauphin past Swan Valley 3-2 Sunday night. The Kings took the best-of-seven opening round series four games to two. 


Cole Temple scored the go-ahead goal with 6:44 remaining in the third period as Brandon edged the Winnipeg Wild 5-4 at Bell MTS Iceplex. The Wheat Kings lead the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League's best-of-five final two games to none and will host game three on Friday night.


Mikey Milne had a goal and four assists as the Winnipeg Ice downed the Medicine Hat Tigers 8-2. The Ice clinched home ice advantage throughout the Western Hockey League playoffs and captured the Scottie Munro Memorial Trophy for the second time in franchise history. 


Nikolaj Ehlers had a goal and two assists as Winnipeg edged Ottawa 4-3. Pierre-Luc Dubois, Paul Stastny and Kyle Connor with his 42 of the season also scored for the Jets who have nine games left and are seven points back of the Dallas Stars who hold down the second wildcard spot in the NHL’s Western Conference. Winnipeg forward Mark Scheifele left the game in the second period with an upper-body injury and will not play tonight when the Jets face the Canadiens in Montreal.


Brad Gushue, Mark Nichols, Brett Gallant and Geoff Walker had to settle for silver medals at the 2022 World Men’s Curling Championship in Las Vegas. The four-time Canadian champions  lost 8-6 to Niklas Edin of Sweden in the gold medal game. It's the sixth world championship title for Edin.
