Sarah Fillier scored twice as Canada defeated Switzerland 4-1 Saturday at the 2022 World Women’s Hockey Championship in Herning, Denmark. Blayre Turnbull and Emily Clark also scored for Team Canada. Ann-Renee Desbiens faced just eight shots. Canada has a 2-0 preliminary round record and will face Japan Sunday at 8 a.m.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes have clinched a playoff spot. Max Murphy homered three times and drove in seven runs as the Fish defeated the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks 14-7 in the first game of their doubleheader Saturday and officially booked their ticket to the post-season. The Goldeyes, who dropped the second game of the twinbill 9-3, will play their final road game of the regular season schedule Sunday at Newman Outdoor Field.


Jarod Crane is the 89th Tamarack men’s champion. Crane parred the 18th hole and defeated Nolan Ritchie 1 up in the final Saturday at the Clear Lake golf course. Hayden Delaloye beat Mac Sanderson 4 and 2 in the junior final. George Panagiotou beat Clay Wyborn 2 and 1 in the senior men’s final. Dale Murray edged Jack McDiarmid 1 up in the masters men’s final.


Narin An and Hye-Jin Choi share the leading into the final round of the CP Women’s Open in Ottawa. The LPGA rookies are 16-under par after 54 holes. First round leader Paula Reto is one shot back. Maddie Szeryk of London, Ontario is in a tie for 11th spot at minus nine.
