Charmaine Mackid of Breezy Bend opened with a three-over-par 74 and has a two stroke lead over Cala Korman of the Killarney Lakeside golf club heading into the final round of the Women’s City & District Championship at La Broquerie Golf. Kristian Hammerback of Winnipeg leads the Gross Division in the All Abilities Championship after carding a four-over par 76. Zach Lederer of Toronto was 74 Saturday and leads the 12& Under Junior Men’s Championship. Adam Blair of Pinawa was 79 and leads the 13 & 14 Junior Men’s Division. Jewel Lafleche of Clear Lake leads the Junior Women’s Division after an opening round 89.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes swept a pair of seven-inning games from the Lincoln Saltdogs on Saturday. Luis Ramirez allowed scattered five hits and struck out six over five-and-a-third scoreless innings of work as the Fish won the opener 3-0. Raul Navarro had three hits and Eric Rivera drove in three runs as the Goldeyes took the second game of the twinbill 8-1.


The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League champion Shawinigan Cataractes will face the Ontario Hockey League champion Hamilton Bulldogs on Monday and that winner will meet the host Saint John Sea Dogs in the Memorial Cup final on Wednesday. William Dufour scored four times as the Sea Dogs defeated the Cataractes 5-3 in the final game of the round robin.


The Chicago Wolves are Calder Cup champions. The Carolina Hurricanes top affiliate shutout the Springfield Thunderbirds 4-0 and took the American Hockey League’s best-of-seven final four games to one. Winnipeg native and former Brandon Wheat Kings captain Stelio Mattheos had two goals and two assists in 14 games during the Wolves championship run.
