The defending Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League champion Westman Wildcats lost 2-0 to the Yellowhead Chiefs Monday night in Shoal Lake. Natalie Rampton made 26 saves in recording the shutout for the Chiefs who evened the best-of-five semifinal at a game apiece. Westman's Grace Glover faced 36 shots. Game three goes Wednesday night in Hartney.


The Provincial AAAA High School Hockey Championship banner belongs to Steinbach Regional. Drew Heide's goal with .9 seconds left in the first period stood up as the winner as the SRSS defeated the Garden City Fighting Gophers 2-1 Monday night at Hockey for All Centre. The Sabres are the first team from outside the city of Winnipeg to win the Provincial AAAA title since the Garden Valley Zodiacs in 2006.


Randy Neufeld of the La Salle Curling Club captured the Provincial Master Men’s championship Monday in Thompson. Neufeld, Peter Nicholls, Darren Oryniak and Dale Michie edged Mike Mahon of the Granite 4-3 in the final. 


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announce the signing of American defensive end Aaron Sterling. The Atlanta, Georgia native joins the Blue Bombers after a five-year collegiate career with South Carolina. During that time, Sterling recorded 114 tackles, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles, and three pass breakups in 50 games, of which 31 were starts at defensive end. In his final season, Sterling made 27 tackles, 2.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one pass breakup in 13 games.


The NFL's competition committee will consider making roughing-the-passer penalties and personal-foul penalties subject to video review. The two potential rule changes were among nine the league announced in its 2023 playing rules, bylaw and resolution proposals submitted by clubs. The competition committee will consider the rule changes later this month when NFL owners gather in Arizona for their annual meeting.
