Evan Nachtigall of Shilo will face Cole Peters of Niawka; Keaton Jameson of Shilo will take on Eric Prokopowich of Dauphin; Brad Purdy of Shilo will meet Kalem Lambert of Elmhurst; Dustin Dyck of Brandon will face Bobby Launderville of Rossmere and Thomas Friesen of Wheat City will take on Thomas Scott of Dauphin in the first round of the Manitoba Men's Match Play Championship at the Breezy Bend Country Club. The winners will advance to the round of 16.


Jase Wareham and Fred Hrycak each had three hits and Scott Beever drove in three runs as the Rivers Comets defeated the Elkhorn Expos 10-2 Monday night. Owen Wareham, Luke Hrycak and Kaelan Huibers combined on a five-hitter for the Comets who are 3-0 to start the 2024 South West Baseball League season. 


The Winnipeg Goldeyes begin a three-game series against the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks tonight at Newman Outdoor Field. The Fish (7-9) are in fourth place and trail the West Division leading Redhawks by 3.5 games. Winnipeg outfielder Adam Hall has been transferred to the Milwaukee Brewers. Hall becomes the first member of the Goldeyes to move to a Major League organization since fellow Canadian Will McAffer in January 2023, and the 87th in club history. The 25-year-old hit .526 in six games with Winnipeg, with three doubles, one home run, two runs batted in, and seven runs scored.


Sam O'Reilly had a goal and an assist to lead the London Knights past the Moose Jaw Warriors 5-4 at the Memorial Cup in Saginaw, Michigan. Ruslan Gazizov, Sam Dickinson, Landon Sim and Kasper Halttunen also scored for the Ontario Hockey League champions who improved to 2-0 in the round robin. The Knights will face the host Saginaw Spirit (2-0) on Wednesday. The winner will earn a bye to the championship game. Ethan Sememiuk scored twice for the Western Hockey League champions who are winless in two games. Martin Rysavy and Dominion City's Denton Mateychuk also scored for the Warriors who play their final round robin game tonight (6:30 p.m.) against the Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League champion Drummondville Voltigeurs (0-2) at the Dow Event Centre. The loser will be eliminated while the winner advances to the semifinal against either the Knights or Spirit on Friday. 


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers released American receiver Kody Case and American defensive lineman Rick D'Abreu from their training camp roster. The Blue Bombers play their final pre-season game Friday at home against the Calgary Stampeders.
