It's a family affair for Marcia McClung who will be reading the role of her grandmother Nellie in Prairie Theatre Exchanges 'Let Them Howl', Sunday October 18th at the PTE in Winnipeg.

The Winnipeg based theatre company along with The Nellie McClung Foundation, is presenting a re-telling and re-enactment of the famous ‘mock-parliament’ play that featured Nellie McClung and her peers in the Political Equality League.

McClung says as a child, she remembers her grandmother as a fun person to be around, with plenty to say.

"Of course, as a child I saw her as my grandmother. As I started to learn about what she'd done, the first thing I did was read her books. She has two volumes of a biography that she wrote later in life. As I read them, I thought 'Oh my goodness, all these things that she did, how did she do it all?' She had five children, a long and happy marriage and was active in many, many organizations."

She adds, she jumped at the chance to play the part of her grandmother during such a pivotal time in Manitoba's history.

McClung explains, when the PTE had the idea to produce this project, it was difficult to come up with a script. She explains, at the time the Political Equity League would not have come up with a script for this event, rather just gotten together and done it. So she says it was a great idea of the PTE to have a playwright, Sharon Bajer, put together a script that has been modernized and made it relevant for today.

The 100th anniversary celebration of Manitoba women winning the right to vote will be kicked off by this presentation. Tickets for Let Them Howl are on sale now, and are just $60 for adults and $20 for students. You can get yours by calling 204-942-5483.
