"Aboriginal Youth Leadership and Success" is the theme of a new exhibit at Brandon University.

Director of the centre for Aboriginal and Rural Education Karen Rempel explained this exhibit uses a new research process to Canada, it's called photo-voice.

"We have images that don't show people but they show scenes in the environment or symbols or objects that represent the thinking of people," said Rempel when asked about photo-voice.  "What you will see is the back of a child 's head looking down a road and that one talks about the journey of education.  Another one talks about the environment. Indigenous Aboriginal folks are very closely tied to the land so they talk lots about their connection to the land and their culture and tradition."

Rempel added the Aboriginal population in Manitoba continues to grow, making the focus of youth leadership and success that much more important.

"I was just at a conference where they predicted by the year 2017 approximately 25 percent of our population will be of Aboriginal ancestry.  The other piece that is even more significant is that most of that population is a young population that is under the age of 20.  It is really important to get them what education and leadership looks like from that perpective."

The exhibit will be on display at B.U. until the end of August.
