Looking back on the past year Killarney Turtle Mountain Mayor Janice Smith likes what she saw in her community.

Smith took over as mayor following the October civic election.

“Coming out of covid I think Killarney Turtle Mountain has really rallied around working together and we’re starting to see a little bit of growth and a bit of progress moving forward. We’d like to see the cost of things drop a bit. A lot of our budgetary items went over so we had to balance out budget so making sure all those departments are running smoothly is a priority.”

The municipality issued a number of permits for new construction and renovation projects. “It was significant actually and we’re happy about that. All of our contractors stayed very busy in 2022.”

Work continues on renovations at the civic centre on main street. “We hope to have the fire hall side done by the end of January and then we'll move the offices to that side and the renovations on the other side will commence. That will send council to the Shamrock Centre until the project nears completion.”

Plans are to have the civic centre renovations done by August of 2022.
