Shaela Hayward of Carman and Colton Olafson of Portage Collegiate won the “A” side finals Friday night at the Provincial High School Curling Championships in The Pas. Hayward defeated Dahlia Snaith of Carberry 8-4 and Olafson downed Luc Cormier of St. Norbert 8-5.


In the Westman High School Hockey League – Jaren Waldner had a six-point night with three goals and three assists as Glenboro/Carberry/Baldur downed Roblin/Grandview/Gilbert Plains 11-5; Brandon Wasilka made 42 saves as the Major Pratt Pratt Trojans shaded Boissevain/Souris 4-3; William Miner scored twice as Dauphin doubled up on Reston/Elkhorn/Melita/Pierson 6-3; Jory Kulbacki had four goals and an assist as the Neepawa Tigers downed the Deloraine/Hartney Colts 7-1; Dylan Heritage had two goals and a helper as Virden beat Sandy Bay 4-2; Dylan Maynes scored the winner on the power play in overtime to lift Birtle/Shoal Lake/Rossburn past Hamiota/Rivers/Elton/Strathclair 2-1 and Ozzy Atkinson had three goals and two assists as Minnedosa/Erickson beat Vincent Massey 6-2.


Joey Bielik and Dean Gorchynski had two goals each as the Virden Oil Capitals downed the Winnipeg Blues 6-1 at Tundra Oil & Gas Place. Virden’s Eric Reid made 28 saves.


The Wawanesa Jets, Miniota-Elkhorn C-Hawks, Virden Oil Kings and Minnedosa Bombers were winners in the Tiger Hills Hockey League Friday night. Jackson Wallis and Will Lehnert scored two goals each as the Jets downed the MacGregor Wild 8-5; Shawn Bowles had three goals and Kelsey McLeod had three helpers as the C-Hawks beat the Melita Bisons 7-2 and finished first place in the West Division with a 17-1 record; Ty Lewis had a goal and four assists as the Oil Kings downed the Carberry Plainsmen 7-3 and Dallas Drysdale scored 16 seconds into overtime to lift the Bombers past the Cartwright Clippers 8-7.


Carson Bjarnason made 21 saves in the Brandon Wheat Kings 4-1 victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings at Westoba Place. Charlie Elick, Caleb Hadland, Dawson Pasternak and Matthew Henry scored for the Wheat Kings.
