Matheus Souza of Brandon University is the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference Male Athlete of the Week. The Bobcats rookie keeper played in all three contests and has been rock solid as the last line of the defence. The Bobcats had to play three matches in five days and the Brasilia, Brazil native was ready for the task with his stellar play during 270 minutes. Brandon had two tight matches of 1-0 results at home over Assiniboine Community College Cougars on September 28th and then against third place Université de Saint-Boniface Les Rouges on October 1st. To end the week, Souza logged his third straight shutout during the 4-0 victory at home over Canadian Mennonite University Blazers on October 2nd. The Bobcats lead the conference by six points with a 7-0-1 record.


The Winnipeg Jets play their fifth of six exhibition games tonight when they face the Calgary Flames at Canada Life Centre. The Jets, who are coming off a 3-2 shootout loss to the Edmonton Oilers this past Saturday, will wrap up their pre-season schedule on Friday against the Flames in Calgary. Winnipeg will open the 2022-23 NHL season at home on Friday, October 14th against the N.Y. Rangers.


Winnipeg quarterback Zach Collaros and receiver Nic Demski have been named CFL Top Performers for their work in last Friday’s 31-13 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Collaros completed 14-of-25 passes for 296 yards and four touchdowns, with no interceptions. The CFL's reigning Most Outstanding Player currently leads the league in passing yards with 3,874 and touchdown passes with 32. Demski caught five passes for 94 yards and two touchdowns. Demski has now registered 52 catches for 613 yards and nine touchdowns in 11 games this season. 


Glenn Howard is the new coach for Team Jennifer Jones. The 60-year-old Howard, who has won four Briers and four world men's championships, coached Scotland's Eve Muirhead at the 2018 Winter Olympics where they finished in fourth place. Jones and her new team of Mackenzie Zacharias, Karlee Burgess, Emily Zacharias and Lauren Lenentine have already won two events this season including the $50,000 PointsBet Invitational in Fredericton last month.


The Toronto Blue Jays will face the Seattle Mariners in the American League wildcard series which begins Friday at Rogers Centre. Toronto's game in Baltimore was rained out Tuesday night. The Jays and Orioles will play a doubleheader today to wrap up the regular season schedule.
