The heavy rains of a couple of years ago created havoc for the bank of the Souris River in town.

"The bank was moving," says Souris-Glenwood Head of Council, Duane Davison.  "That six-inch rain event a couple of years ago we think is what caused it, but it was moving.

One of the main streets in the center of town, Crescent Avenue, had been repaved about 5 years ago, and the municipality noticed the sidewalk on the east end of the crescent was showing signs of stress.

"It was like a crack in it, like a spread at the joint and the investigation showed that the actual bank was moving," he continues. "So, they just put a whole bunch of weight on the bottom of the bank to hold it up and it looks good!"

Davison says with the naked eye you couldn't tell the bank was moving but obviously it was because it was the symptoms that they noticed.

"The engineers got it figured out and they put all the material in the appropriate place, they kind of tiered it kind of like steps, and it looks very good."
